About Sam
Artist, Designer, and Plant Lady
I’m Sam Rowe, a watercolor artist and graphic designer based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. With a BA in Design Arts and a Minor in Art from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, I’ve spent years immersed in the structured world of agency graphic design.
But in 2022, I discovered the raw, no-rules freedom of abstract watercolor after uncovering an untouched paint set gifted by my grandmother. From that first messy brushstroke, I was hooked on the therapeutic flow of the medium, embracing the imperfections and spontaneity that graphic design often denies.
I’m also proud to be a current resident of the NWTC Artisan Residency program, where I’m continuing to grow as an artist and small business owner.
You can also find my booth at local markets and events throughout the year, one of my favorites is the Green Bay Vintage Market at Badger State Brewing.
An Unconventional Approach to Creativity
I trust my gut when I paint, allowing the colors and movement to guide me. My process is anything but traditional—my favorite palette is a deviled egg platter! With bold brushstrokes, vibrant hues, and a commitment to embracing imperfection, I create feel-good art that’s as messy and real as life itself.

As a bi woman in Wisconsin, my art reflects my journey of self-love, mental health, and finding joy in the little things. I’m endlessly inspired by nature, drag queens, and the amazing connections I’ve made through my art.
What materials do you use?
I use watercolor tube pigments, Arches cold-pressed watercolor paper, and often paint markers and pens. I try not to limit myself; I’m always willing to try new techniques.
Where does the name “Samsconsin” come from?
As a proud Wisconsinite, I combined Sam and Wisconsin to create an anonymous way to share my early art online and build confidence without worrying about judgment. Over time, it grew into a unique brand that’s deeply tied to my journey as an artist.
Do you teach watercolor classes?
I do! I feel very lucky to have a space at Soul Purpose to share watercolor techniques. Sign up for my newsletter below to get in the know about upcoming classes and events.
